bouncindj.com/archive/girls-allowed Facilitated by Bounce Education, hosted by St Cecilia’s Girls College, Derry~Londonderry, and funded by the Big Lottery’s Culture For All, we launched ‘Girls Allowed’ on International Women’s Day 2013. Girls, from St Cecilia’s Cope programme and Lisnagelvin Primary School, participated in a series of songwriting and performance with music technology workshops, which offered opportunity and inspired girls to participate in the predominantly male dominated world of Music Technology. Workshop delivery was centred on positive female role models in music, using workshop activities as tools of solidarity, participation and communication. St Cecilia’s College and Bounce were proud to develop this intercultural, intergenerational and multi-disciplined partnership between over 40 female participants. London’s very own Legs Eleven Sound System delivered a Music Technology masterclass on the realities of being women in the music industry, and a successful careers Q & A to our participants. This project culminated in Open College Network DJ Technology certificates for all our teenage participants, and a live music music event, which our girls performed at, planned, organised and hosted.
