Many Rivers To Cross is a Heritage lottery funded film. It tells the story, humorous and emotional in parts, of nine people who came to the UK from the Caribbean in the 1950’s and 1960’s. They traveled with nothing but their suitcase and a five-year plan. They built the country, a family and their lives.
The British Nationality Act 1948 gave those in the Commonwealth and British Empire citizenship and the rights to enter and settle in England. The reason? There was a labour shortage. Many Caribbeans saw this as an opportunity and made the momentous journey.
